Vera Bradley Handbags

Vera Bradley can be thanked for making airports more attractive! This tiny basement company was founded in 1982, literally in the basement of Barbara Baekgaard's Fort Wayne, Indiana home. Baekgaard got the idea to start a luggage / baggage company with friend Patricia Miller when the women were struck by the lack of attractive luggage on the airport turn-style while on vacation. Voila - Vera Bradley, named for Barbara's mother, was born.

Today, Vera Bradley is a thriving company, still based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Vera Bradley holds tightly to their roots and their original handbags and luggage are still made from 100% diamond quilted cotton. Additional handbag lines made from 100% silk, tweed and micro fiber have since been added.

Looking at a Vera Bradley bag gives me the impression that they would be popular with new mothers and women in their mid-30s and up. They are both comfortable - made with cotton and fully quilted with a layer of foam for extra puffiness - and are fully washable as is. For this bag lady, Vera Bradley prints bring to mind a mix of Martha Stewart and English garden paisley dcor. Vera handbags are available in picnic-patterned prints with names like pink pansy, villa red, Bermuda red and pink, sherbet, Americana red, apple green and Maison blue. Vera Bradley bags are available in an array of tote, handbag, mini backpack, mini duffle and canteen styles.

Unlike many of their designer counterparts, Vera Bradley bags don't feature any plastic, metal hardware. Instead, Vera's feature basic zip, button, Velcro or magnetic snap closures.

The Vera Bradley line of handbags and luggage features:

The Classic Vera Bradley Bag - The bag that started it all has a slim design with quilted shoulder straps, six inside pockets, a key clip, outside slip-pocket and a two-way zipper closure - in each of the above named prints. Approximately $50 online.

The Daphne - This quilted silk handbag in paisley print features a scarf-tied shoulder strap and stunning silver accents. Approximately $65 online.

The Traveler - is a chic luggage satchel done in black micro fiber. Styled with long handles and a large interior, it is comfortable to carry, with its soft lining and its exterior slip pocket. Approximately $120 online.

I purchased my first bag and I love the space it has in it.
