Bill Blass (1922-2002), the famed American clothing designer, first showed off his knack for fashion when he was only 15-years-old. A New York manufacturer bought his sketches of evening gowns for a mere $25 each (imagine what they’re worth now). Even the army couldn’t stifle Blass’ fashion sense. After he left the Army in 1945, Blass worked for Anne Klein in New York and gained experience as an assistant designer at Anna Miller and Company, designing upscale women’s fashion.
However it was Blass’ classic menswear that launched his fashion career in the late 1960s. After achieving numerous awards, he finally established Bill Blass, his own brand name, in 1970. It was then Bill let his design inspiration run free to create various lines of sportswear, rainwear, airline uniforms, evening dresses, accessories, bed linens, perfumes, handbags and luggage.
Tragically, in June 2002, Bill died from oral cancer. However today, he still wears his fashion halo. Renaissance designer, Michael Vollbracht, took the Blass helm, and continued illustrating designs for international clients and many private collections for celebrities such as former First Lady Nancy Reagan, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, rich girl Paris Hilton, and movie stars such as Sandra Bullock, Diane Sawyer, Jessica Biel and Sandra Oh. First Lady Laura Bush is also considered a Bill Blass VIP. As you can tell from the list of top clientele, the famous silver labels of Bill Blass designs still symbolize a uniquely gorgeous sense of fashion for the young and older.
Just like the meticulously designed clothing lines, Bill Blass Luggage is also aimed at the stylish sect. Blass Luggage is made with 1200 Denier cloth, a fabric durable enough for family vacations and abusive business trips. The pullman, tote and duffel bag always have outside pockets with nylon inner zippers to provide easy access for your passport, transport tickets, money and other travel essentials.
Probably the most striking Blass item is the Bill Blass 5-piece Luggage Set. This exclusive luggage set contains a 27-inch, a 24-inch and a 20-inch expandable upright, plus a 20-inch duffel bag and a 16-inch boarding bag. Each Blass upright has a brushed silver Bill Blass puller and push-button locking handles. For ultra-easy storage, every piece of this Blass set fits inside another. The price of this 5-piece luggage set averages for $150 online.
