A century ago, nobody would’ve guessed Boyt, the American luggage brand, would be a longstanding brand name. Back in 1901, John Boyt opened his first Des Moines harness and saddle works store. The incomparable craftsmanship, top quality materials, superior durability and innovation helped him gain a global reputation during both world wars, during which time the U.S. government commissioned Boyt as the official supplier of leather packs, gun cases, holsters and straps for its troops. In 1969, Boyt introduced his first line of soft-sided luggage, and moved into the civilian realm of travel luggage.
Despite having been a high-end luggage icon for a long time, Boyt experienced bankruptcy in the fall of 1996, due to the internal mismanagement. However, Boyt didn’t give up on his company. A year later, Boyt Luggage emerged from bankruptcy and began focusing on new and improved product development.
