I'm sure you've seen monogram purses bouncing around town on the arms of women and girls everywhere - Sarah with her 'S'; Marcy with her 'M' and Tania with her 'T' - monogram purses and handbags are the newest trend.
If we're not buying a pre-personalized bag with our initial already on it, we're looking for a designer monogram print for our handbags, sweaters, T-shirts and jackets. Personalization, with initials and engraving is the fashion trend of the moment. Handbags with first initials, entire names, horoscope signs or monograms (first and last initials) on them are being spotted everywhere.
It started with celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw. She made monogramming popular with her namesake necklace and 'C' bag on the show - so popular that people have been on a personalizing crazy, adding their initials to everything from shoes and clothes, to jewelry and even laptops. The monogram trend has far surpassed initials on just linens, sheets and your child's backpack or lunch bag.
Monograms are popular on any item, but they are mainly being touted on purses. Many top designers are tugging on the monogram purse strings as well - be it your initial or they're own. For example, purse designers like Chanel and Gucci have long been recognized for their interlocking C's and G's, while a Louis Vuitton handbag is admired for the embossed 'LV' in its hardware or purse strap. Many designer items with the designer's monogram on it as well. As noted above, a popular style with designers like Gucci or Chanel uses the monograms in a repeated pattern over a solid print, but other purse designers are mixing multicolored monograms with solid bags and vice versa. The monogram trend among designers makes the item's brand easily recognizable and further popularizes it.
The good news is that if you're a fan of the monogram trend there is no need to run out and pay a fistful for a leather purse with your initial. Instead, why not buy a plain purse and put your initial, name or monogram on it. This way you are able to choose your own color, have your monogram embroidered on the bag, in colors of your choice to match your wardrobe.
