Photo Purses

Photo purses are another recent trend in handbag design. Photo purses refer to any handbag with a photo digitally scanned onto the handbag's material. For this reason most photo handbags are made of cotton, or have a cotton overlay. My personal favorite is my sleek 1950's inspired clutch with the sultry pout of Bridget Bardot displayed across its entirety. Nothing says glam for me like the sultry Bardot smoking a cigarette!

Photo purses come in all styles - totes, clutches, evening bags, mini backpacks, camera bags - and almost any picture you desire can be found on a photo purse. Some favorite photo handbags feature the following:

  • Your favorite dog or cat breeds

  • Your favorite celebrity

  • Actors and actresses from the golden age of Hollywood - such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis and Audrey Hepburn

  • Cartoon characters - such as Betty Boop, Scooby Doo and Hello Kitty

  • Touching black and white photos

Photo purses featuring such items can be found for between $20 and $100 online.

However, the desire for personalized photo handbags has taken over. Purse manufacturers are now offering to personalize your photo purse with a family portrait, self-portrait, photo of your pet or kids for between $100 and $200 online - which is rather steep, but some would argue it gives you the chance to show off your kids, pets, grandkids and gives you the ability to take them with you anywhere.

Another alternative photo companies, like Sony and Kodak, are cashing in on is digital camera technology. With them selling photography paper with transfer capabilities, you can have your favorite photos transferred from camera, to computer, to purse by scanning the digital image right onto the computer paper and then transferring it onto a cotton surface via an ink jet printer.
